Before joining the bench John Ruhl represented all types of civil clients in all types of cases.  For 25 years he served as an arbitrator for the King County Superior Court’s Arbitration Program.  Starting in 1990s, he arbitrated dozens of commercial cases for the American Arbitration Association.   He also served as a judge pro tempore for the King County Superior Court and the King County District Court.  In each case as a neutral decision maker, he acted impartially, followed legal precedents, and applied common sense.

John also worked as a mediator in state and federal cases, having done his formal mediation training through the Dispute Resolution Center of King County.
