Meet John Ruhl

Judge John Ruhl - King County Superior CourtJohn Ruhl was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He attended Seattle University, where he graduated in 1974, summa cum laude, with a B.A. in history and journalism.  After working as a news reporter in Alaska, he attended law school at the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1978.   Following law school, he served as a law clerk for Judge Edward Reed at the Washington Court of Appeals.

In 1979 John entered private practice in Seattle.  He built his business and commercial trial practice representing a wide variety of clients.

Prior to joining the bench, John headed the Transportation Law Group at his law firm, Ryan, Swanson & Cleveland, PLLC. He was listed as a Top Rated Lawyer in Transportation by American Lawyer Media.

In 2012-2013, he served as the first non-banker president of the Puget Sound Chapter of the Risk Management Association, a professional bankers’ association that promotes best practices in commercial lending and trains bankers in sound lending and credit practices.

John and his wife Melanie live in Seattle.  They have three adult daughters.
